Marriage Is Ordained Of God

"And again, verily I say unto you, that whoso forbiddeth to marry is not ordained of God, for marriage is ordained of God unto man. Wherefore, it is lawful that he should have one wife, and they twain shall be one flesh, and all this that the earth might answer to end of its creation."
— Doctrine & Covenants 49:15-16

Marriage is ordained of God. It is where we find the fulfillment of our creation. It is a divine crucible where we can attain Christ-like qualities better than any other place or circumstance in our lives. Marriage is the best place to learn humility, sacrifice, service, obedience to God, love for our fellow man, endurance, joy, patience..... the list goes on and on.

Marriage is the best institution where a man and woman can work together in the journey of parenthood, blessing and succoring each other as they learn and grow and watch their children do the same. Life is a tough road to walk. How happy I am that God's plan does not mean for us to walk that road alone!

I have been so fortunate and blessed to walk this road with my sweetheart for the last 14 years. It's been no picnic - there has been heartache and pain between us as well as joy and happiness, but that is part of God's plan. We will never realize and appreciate the good if we don't experience the bad. Today I thank my Father in Heaven for the blessings he has shared with me through my marriage. He has been so good to me!

With love,

  5. Marriage is definitely an excellent blessing from God. I haven't even been married 2 years yet so 14 years sounds like a long, long time! I'm looking forward to it all!

  6. The advice I give to new brides is learn to keep quiet when he is upset and watch for the best timing to enter your gentle words and suggestions. Harsh words to an upset husband can only create a terrible rift. I am not saying a wife should always be silent, just that she should wait for the proper moment to give her speach. There have been times that the next day, my hubby comes up with this brillient idea - - it was the same as my speach of yesterday. LOL Thanks for sharing at Tell me a Story.

  7. I agree with your statements on marriage, but I'm wondering where you found the verse from Doctrines and Covenants. That chapter is not in the Bible I'm familiar with.

    1. The Doctrine & Covenants is a book of scripture used by the LDS church. Here's a blurb from it's introduction...
"The Doctrine & Covenants is a collection of divine revelations and inspired declarations given for the establishment and regulation of the kingdom of God on the earth in the last days. Although most of the sections are directed to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the messages, warnings, and exhortations are for the benefit of all mankind, and contain an invitation to all people everywhere to hear the voice of the Lord Jesus Christ, speaking to them for their temporal well-being and their everlasting salvation."

  14. Wonderful post! I am so thankful for the gift of a Christ centered marriage. I have been married to my best friend for 20 years now. Our life verse for our marriage is
Ecclesiastes 4:12 "12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." As long as God is at the center a marriage can withstand the test of time!

  16. Enjoyed reading this. It will be 37 years for me this November. Each year gets sweeter. We've had some heartache--losing a child and other happenings out of our control, but our love got us through even the painful times. It's RB and I plus God.

  17. Oh I love that never realize and appreciate the good if you don't experience the bad. So true. My hubby and I have been married for 21 years and we have had our share of difficulties. However we are not stronger because of it. Once again we are going through a difficult circumstance with work wise and yet I remain happy because I know that through everything we are putting each other before ourselves. :)
